TotalMSK Musculoskeletal and Chiropractic (Cambridge) was founded by Terry Davis to offer a high quality, professional and complete Musculoskeletal Therapy service to the residents of Cambridge. The founder of TotalMSK has in excess of 11 years experience treating musculoskeletal conditions/injuries affecting elite athlete's and members of the general public. He has developed a particular interest in the area of Sports Chiropractic and as a result has completed extensive training in skills relating to this.
Terry has been actively involved in sport since childhood and frequently represented his school and sixth form in Athletics and Rugby. His sporting activities carried on through University and the 8 years he spent in the UK's Elite Military Forces. Whilst within the Military environment, he was frequently required to push his body to the limits of physical and mental endurance. Inevitably, pushing the body to the limits can often and does result in musculoskeletal related injuries. One becomes highly attuned to ones body when training at an elite level and develops an early appreciation of when something is wrong. Terry is still extremely active today and has a mix of interests including cycling, running, kayaking, outdoor pursuits and he particularly enjoys endurance challenges. He has previously walked the Pennine Way in the UK twice, solo and carrying everything he needed on his back, only stopping for food and water. The Pennine Way is approximately 275 miles and took 14 days the first time and 10 the second.
Besides interests in sport and the abilities of human body, Terry has always had an enquiring mind, questioning how and why things work. Over the years he has been treated for various musculoskeletal injuries and became frustrated with the fact that the root cause was frequently missed. In effect, the symptom was identified and treated, rather than the root cause of the problem. The combination of the knowledge gained at elite athlete level and his personal injury history naturally lead to a career in the field musculoskeletal medicine.
In 2005 Terry started his formal training and as part of his foundation year at the McTimoney College of Chiropractic he qualified with a diploma in holistic massage. The foundation course also included a good grounding in Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry and pathology. After completing the foundation year Terry started his studies for a 5 year Integrated Masters in Chiropractic, also at the McTimoney College of Chiropractic. McTimoney Chiropractic takes an holistic approach to all treatments and this is completely in tune with the philosophy that Terry advocates. To date, Terry's additional Chiropractic training has provided him with a much more in-depth knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Neurology, Bio mechanics, Musculoskeletal Medicine, Pharmacology, Imaging & Referral and Differential Diagnosis than is commonly taught on a Musculoskeletal therapy or massage course. Unlike most musculoskeletal therapists and massage therapists Terry is also trained to manipulate or adjust.
Terry finally qualified from the McTimoney College of Chiropractic in January 2011 with an Integrated Masters in Chiropractic. The combination of Terry's multidisciplinary training, personal injury history and interests in sport have frequently proved highly beneficial in the treatment of patients. Terry strongly believes that his mix of skills and interests help to qualify him as a better Chiropractor and Musculoskeletal Therapist.
As part of his ongoing and continual professional development and even during his Chiropractic studies Terry gained further qualifications in Sports Massage, Soft Tissue Release (STR) and advanced remedial massage techniques, some of which have their origins in Osteopathic medicine. He also holds the current (as of 2013) UK's highest level qualification for clinical sports & remedial massage (BTEC Level 5). Prior to leaving the UK to work in Australia Terry ran his own successful practice for just under 4 years and has treated a wide variety of people, ages and conditions from professional athletes to office workers. Whilst in Australia Terry treated members of Queensland Ballet, Australian National Level Triathletes, Elite Swimmers and Elite level Tennis players. He has treated Rowers, Runners, Rugby Players, crossfit competitors, elite serving and ex-serving military personnel, equestrian athletes, gymnasts and more.
Although, Terry has trained as a Chiropractor in the UK, his additional training in advanced sports and remedial massage place him is a slightly different field. The vast majority of Chiropractor's purely work from a Chiropractic point of view. Terry, brings together his in-depth knowledge of physical activity, chiropractic and soft tissue techniques. Furthermore, standard treatments are not 10-20mins and are 30 minutes minimum. Terry is registered Chiropractor and holds registration with the UK's statutory regulator the General Chiropractic Council (GCC) and the Complementary & Natural Health Council (CNHC) for Massage Therapy. He is also a member of the Sports Massage Association (SMA) and the Institute of Sports & Remedial Massage (ISRM)
